I have always regarded networking as a perfect opportunity for me to get to interact with other professionals in any field of specialization. Networking allows an individual to establish connections with different people hence benefiting both parties. The importance of networking is that it allows people to interact with others from all walks of life. Besides, it acts as a step towards enhancing one’s career. I began my career working at an international call center where, over time, I came to understand the role of networking in a job. Being in a call center, I interacted with various people on a daily basis from different countries and cultures like Canada, the Philippines, and even from my country. The type of exchanges I shared with these people allowed me to form an extensive network that benefited my development career wise and socially during these past few years.

Furthermore, the relationships I fostered with other departments in the company helped me find creative solutions to some problems that I had in my work. For instance, when our colleagues in Canada were facing lousy weather conditions and could not go to work, we were met by a massive volume of calls that we needed to answer on our site. As such we had to work together to get things done. Additionally, networking helped me when I was still new in the banking sector. After finishing the probation period, I was able to form a wide range of contacts from different branches and departments within the bank. This course allowed me to expand my network more and get in touch with people working in the corporate finance field in a lot of different banks in Egypt, a factor that helped me join that department and work as a credit analyst in the small and medium enterprises department.

The good thing about networking is that it brings people together. It enhances sharing of ideas and opinions with other people. As such, these interactions help foster relationships between people who may never have agreed on anything to sit together and exchange ideas and opinions. Besides, networking offers an excellent opportunity for individuals to convene with people who may help them grow and develop. It enhances relationships amongst individuals from different cultures and countries across the world.

Moreover, my current job entails marketing and expanding our corporate client base. I typically achieve this through active networks that I have formed with our existing clients by getting referrals from them. I believe that I developed a vibrant system during the last six years of my life both professionally and socially. Being part of the Chevening community will allow me to expand my network with future leaders from different countries, and will allow me to use my existing system to help and guide future Chevening alumni and connect them with potential opportunities. If given the opportunity, I will participate in social events with much enthusiasm so as to enhance my networking skills.
